District-Based Elections
On October 11, 2023, the City of Rancho Santa Margarita City Council adopted Ordinance No. 23-02 implementing by-district municipal elections.
To help share information about the district formation process, public mapping tools, and maps drawn by the public and to collect public feedback, the City of Rancho Santa Margarita has launched a dedicated district formation webpage: www.drawrsm.org. The webpage includes background information about district formation, a schedule outlining public hearings and deadlines, frequently asked questions and other details.

General Municipal Election - November 5, 2024
The City Clerk is the local Election Official and coordinates with the Orange County Registrar of Voters Office to conduct municipal elections.
A General Municipal Election was held in the City of Rancho Santa Margarita on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, for a Mayor elected at-large and one Member of the City Council residing in District 3, for four-year terms.
UNOFFICIAL ELECTION RESULTS
The first election results were reported for the General Municipal Election at 8:05 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. For election results, please visit ocvote.gov/results.
PUBLIC REVIEW PERIOD
Per Elections Code 13313, the Elections Official shall make a copy of the candidate's statements available for public examination in the elections official's office for a period of ten calendar days immediately following the filing deadline.
The last day of public review period for candidate's statements was Monday, August 19, 2024.
CANDIDATES
On August 15, 2024, the Secretary of State conducted a randomized drawing of the alphabet to determine the order of the names on the ballot. The alphabet is applied throughout the candidates last name.

Nomination Filing Period
The nomination filing period for a Mayor elected at-large and one Member of the City Council residing in District 3, opened Monday, July 15, 2024 and closed Friday, August 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
Pursuant to Elections Code 10225 (b), the extended filing period is not applicable for the November 5, 2024 General Municipal Election since there is no incumbent eligible to be elected.

How to Register to Vote
To register to vote you must complete a voter registration form which can be obtained online at the Orange County Registrar of Voters website: registertovote.ca.gov or by calling the Orange County Registrar of Voters office at (714) 567-7600.
