The City Clerk is the local Election's Official and coordinates with Orange County to conduct municipal elections.

GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION - NOVEMBER 6, 2018

 A General Municipal Election will be held in the City of Rancho Santa Margarita on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 for Three (3) Members of the City Council - Full Term of Four (4) Years.

Qualified Candidate List

The following candidates have qualified for the November 6, 2018 General Municipal Election (listed in the order as dictated by the Secretary of State randomized alphabet drawing):

The public review period for candidate statements begins Thursday, August 16, 2018 and closes Monday, August 27, 2018. During the public review period the Election Official shall make a copy of the candidates statements available for public examination in the Election Official's office.


Secretary of State to Determine Order of Names on Ballot

On Thursday, August 16, 2018, the Secretary of State conducted a drawing of the letters of the alphabet constituting a randomized alphabet to be used in determining the order of all candidates on the ballot.



Nomination Period

The nomination period for City Council candidates began on July 16, 2018 through August 10, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. The nomination period was extended until Wednesday, August 15, 2018 by 5:00 p.m. since an incumbent did not file nomination papers. The nomination period is closed.



Voter Registration

Voter registration forms are at City Hall and the library. First time voters must register to vote. 

Deadline to Register to Vote: October 22, 2018
Last Day to request a "Vote by Mail" ballot: October 30, 2018
Election Day: November 6, 2018 - Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.



Voter Requirements

  • You must re-register if you have moved by completing a new form.
  • You must be registered at least 15 days prior to the election in which you intend to vote.
  • If you do not live in Orange County, please contact the County Registrar of Voters in the county that you reside.
