E-waste is considered household hazardous waste and is prohibited by state law to be thrown away in the garbage. E-waste must be properly disposed.
Proper Disposal Options
Residents of the City can call CR&R Waste Services at 877-728-0446 to arrange free pickup of e-waste.
Residents may call Curbside, Inc. at 800-449-7587 to schedule a household pickup of e-waste. Please call Curbside, Inc. for pricing and scheduling.

Free City Hosted E-Waste & Shred Event
Every Spring and Fall, the City of Rancho Santa Margarita hosts a free E-Waste and Document Shredding Event for residents. Residents are invited to drive through the event location with any of their electronic waste, old documents for shredding or a combination of both - for FREE! Check in for details as the dates will be posted below.

E-Waste
All items in the 'Accepted' column above can be recycled at this event. All items in the 'Not Accepted' column above cannot be disposed of at this event. Batteries are not accepted during this event and can be dropped off at City Hall year-round. CDs and video tapes are also not able to be recycled with e-waste.
Shredding
Please bring your paper records or documents in a standard-size file box (no larger than 10” x 12” x 15”) or paper grocery bag; shredding trucks will be on-site to shred documents at no cost while you watch. (No 3-ring binders/binder clips). Limit ten (10) boxes per household/business.
