Duties & Responsibilities

The Building and Safety Division ensures the health, safety and welfare of the residents and businesses in Rancho Santa Margarita by regulating the construction, alteration, use, and occupancy of buildings.  The Building and Safety Division is responsible for:
  • Reviewing building plans (Plan Check)
  • Issuing permits
  • Serving the public at the Building Counter
  • Inspecting building projects
  • Investigating complaints
  • Ensuring Building Code compliance

Plan Checks

Plan checks ensure that a project will meet Code requirements  before construction starts. Plan checkers review code compliance for structural, architectural, grading, and fire safety as shown on submitted plans. This service saves the contractor and/or homeowner from costly mistakes early in the process.


Inspections

Inspections ensure that all work conforms to the permit, local Codes, and the approved plans.
