Applications are now being accepted for the College Student Municipal Academy and Internship Program. Space is limited; please apply early!
Join the City of Rancho Santa Margarita staff for a free two-day municipal academy. The program provides college students with an inside look into how local government operates by providing an overview of each City department. At the end of the academy, students will be better informed of the roles that exist in local government. The academy is limited to twenty participants, so apply early.
Participants looking to receive hands-on experience are encouraged to apply for one of three unpaid internships which begin following the academy. This year, unpaid internship opportunities are available with the following departments:
- Public Works and Engineering
- Development Services, including Urban Planning, Code Enforcement, and Economic Development
- Administration, including the City Manager's Office, Public Information, and Human Resources
The internships will continue for approximately three months with flexible schedules and provide students with in-depth local government experience.
All sessions are held at the City of Rancho Santa Margarita Civic Plaza - 22112 El Paseo, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688. Students must be a resident of Rancho Santa Margarita and currently enrolled at an accredited college or university to be eligible for either the academy or an internship. Transcript copies will be requested as part of the application process. Students must commit to attending both days of the academy. The academy is free and students will receive materials, lunch, and refreshments as part of the program. The three internships are unpaid.
