[ARCHIVED] SB 1383 - Food Waste Disposal

SB 1383 graphic

Organics, or food waste, should be disposed of in your green bin.

Effective this month, California residences and businesses are required to participate in an organics collection program mandated by the State of California's SB 1383 by separating organic waste (such as food waste) from other trash and non-organic recyclables. Organics, or food waste, can easily be disposed of in your green bin.

The City is working with our waste hauler, CR&R, to provide information for residents and businesses to comply with the requirements of this legislation. Our goal is to help residents and businesses in the City get into compliance as we navigate together through implementation.

In September 2016, Governor Brown signed SB 1383 into law, establishing methane emissions reduction targets in a statewide effort to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP) in various sectors of California's economy. In addition, SB 1383 establishes targets to achieve a 75% reduction in the level of the statewide disposal of organic waste by 2025.

Please refer to this informational flyer from CR&R for additional information.
