Flag Day is a celebration of the American flag that occurs each year on the flag’s official adoption anniversary, June 14th. Bring your worn, unserviceable flags and participate in this time-honored event.
Join us at the 16th annual Flag Day Flag Retirement Ceremony on Monday, June 14, 2021, from 7:40 - 8:20 p.m. on the lawn behind City Hall. Please bring lawn chairs for seating and any worn or damaged US Flags in need of disposal.
This is an opportunity to honor the American flag in partnership with American Legion Post 862, VFW Post 6024, and local Scout units. The ceremony is held to destroy properly – by burning – worn, damaged, or otherwise unserviceable American flags in a dignified manner in accordance with The United States Flag Code, which reads: "As a revered symbol of freedom and justice, the flag of the United States of America needs to be treated with the utmost respect. This respect extends to the flag's eventual retirement and destruction."
Flags can be disposed of through June in the flag box receptacle located in the lobby of City Hall. The box will be relocated to the Bell Tower Regional Community Center lobby in July.
