[ARCHIVED] Santa Margarita Parkway Bridge Hinge Maintenance Project

Preparation for construction on the Santa Margarita Parkway bridge will begin this week. Electronic messaging boards will be placed at two locations to inform motorists of planned impacts to traffic.

Preparation is underway to begin the Santa Margarita Parkway Bridge Hinge Maintenance Project, slated to start in early July.

First steps by the contractor will be to build temporary supports under the bridge while concurrently working on the bridge deck, performing prerequisite work that will enable the necessary detouring of some westbound traffic onto the eastbound bridge in order to accommodate the ultimate goal of hinge reconstruction.

Initially, motorists traveling the expanse of the Santa Margarita Parkway bridge will observe crews demolishing the median east of the bridge, followed by paving, and re-striping of the roadways. These activities will result in temporary traffic impacts.

The more permanent traffic shift(s), which will allow for the hinge repair, will not occur until immediately before work begins on the upper bridge deck. This work is scheduled to begin tentatively in early August. Construction dates are subject to several factors; we will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Construction alerts and project updates will be posted on the City’s website and social media pages. For inquiries, call Tri Nguyen, Principal Engineer at (949) 635-1813 or email tnguyen@cityofrsm.org.
