[ARCHIVED] City Council selects McGirr to serve as Mayor, Beall as Mayor Pro Tempore

The City Council on Wednesday, December 11th elected Brad McGirr to serve as Mayor and Tony Beall to serve as Mayor Pro Tempore.

Mayor McGirr was first elected to the City Council on November 6, 2012, and served as Mayor Pro Tempore in 2014. After being re-elected to the City Council on November 4, 2014, McGirr served as Mayor in 2015. Mayor McGirr was re-elected  on November 2, 2018, and served as Mayor Pro Tempore in 2019.

Mayor Pro Tempore Beall has served on the City Council since his appointment in 2004. He was then elected to serve in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016. He served as Mayor in 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2016. He served as Mayor Pro Tempore in 2006, 2010, and 2015.

During Wednesday's meeting, the City Council also recognized and thanked outgoing Mayor Jerry Holloway for his service as Mayor this past year. Mayor Holloway served on the City Council from 2002 to 2012, holding the office of Mayor in 2005 and 2010, and served as Mayor Pro Tempore in 2018. He was re-elected to the City Council on November 6, 2018.

Jim Leach was also unanimously appointed to the Planning Commission to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Jim Eakin.

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. The Council‘s December 25th meeting is cancelled due to the Christmas holiday.
