The Holy Fire, which started on Monday, August 6th, has spread from the Holy Jim and Trabuco Canyon areas into the Cleveland National Forest. The fire now covers 4,000 acres. Cleveland National Forest, the United States Forest Service, and Orange County Fire Authority continue to manage the incident.

Currently at 2% containment, the USFS estimates the containment date will be Monday, August 13. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but dry grasses, brush, and timber fuel the fire and the topography of the area makes containment difficult. Additionally, fire officials believe the area has not burned since 1980. The South Coast Air Quality Management District advised via Twitter that during the overnight and early morning hours, downslope winds could bring smoke into the valleys west and southwest of the fire, impacting portions of Orange County, Riverside County, and San Bernardino County.

The InciWeb Incident Information System reports 600 units currently assigned to #HolyFire. There is no threat posed to the Rancho Santa Margarita community at this time. Evacuations remain in place for residents of Holy Jim and Trabuco Canyons, as well as the campgrounds throughout the Trabuco Ranger District and adjacent trails.

A Red Cross care and reception center was available at the City of Rancho Santa Margarita's Bell Tower Regional Community Center through midnight on Monday, August 6th.

Call centers are open at (951) 736-1811. Please follow Cleveland National Forest and OCFA PIO on Twitter for real-time updates on the Holy Fire.
