The HERO Financing Program, which is the largest energy efficient financing program in the nation, is now available to homeowners in RSM. The HERO Program is a local government approved program which empowers homeowners to make their homes more energy efficient by providing low cost, tax deductible financing for a wide range of home improvement projects.
More than 150,000 products for energy and water efficient improvements are available to property owners through the HERO Program. Among the most popular upgrade projects are whole-home heating and cooling (HVAC), solar power panel installations, energy-saving windows, roofing and insulation. Property owners may be eligible to borrow up to 15% of the property value and repay the loan over 5, 10, 15 or 20 years through an assessment on their property tax bill. The HERO Program differs from traditional consumer financing; approvals are based on a homeowner’s equity rather than household income or FICO scores.
The HERO Program is now available to homeowners in over 130 communities throughout the state, and has assisted more than 10,000 homeowners in completing energy efficient upgrades by providing access to more than $195 million in financing. While the program is a win for homeowners, it has also helped create more than 1,200 jobs and generated more than $200 million in economic stimulus.
More than 2,500 contractors in the state have registered for the program and have been approved to offer HERO Financing to their customers. All registered contractors are provided with a comprehensive training program to promote excellent service and accurate information for property owners.
