Special Notice Regarding New Special Event Permit Application Submittals, Effective 3/11/2020

On Wednesday, March 11, 2020, the California Department of Public Health issued guidelines regarding public gatherings to protect public health and slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19. In order to implement these guidelines and best protect the residents of Rancho Santa Margarita, the City is not accepting new applications for Special Event Permits at this time.  We understand that your proposed event is important to your organization and to the community, and we sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. Should the guidance from the State and County allow for future public gatherings to occur, we will resume acceptance of applications for Special Event Permits.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Planning Division is primarily responsible for ensuring the implementation of the goals and strategies of the General Plan, which serves as a comprehensive strategy for the management of future physical growth and change within the community. The Planning Division is also responsible for enforcing the Zoning Code and various ordinances/codes related to land use and development.



Planning & Environmental Compliance

In addition, the Planning Division monitors and responds to development in neighboring jurisdictions and ensures the City’s planning and environmental compliance with all regional authorities and state law.



Staff Support

The Planning Division also provides staff support for the Planning Commission in addition to responsibilities for entitlement review and environmental review of all new developments and subdivisions.
